Castlevania Season 2 gets release window, Double’s its Episode to 8

It has been confirmed by Warren Ellis the writer of Castlevania that the highly praised animated adaptation of the Nintendo game will return to Netflix later this year.

The Castlevania anime that featured a melancholy Dracula who was set on to take revenge against humanity for the death of his wife was a huge hit amongst fans, and therefore it should not come as a surprise that Netflix has already started discussing season two.

On Friday, Ellis was on Twitter to clear up any misunderstanding about the seconds season of Castlevania. Though Netflix had already announced a second season of Castlevania on the same day the first season was released, there wasn’t any clear indication of when that second season might materialize. However, it has been made clear now thanks to Ellis we have received confirmation that the series will be eight episodes long and sometime in the Spring. The number of episodes has been doubled, which is a great news for all the fans who felt as though the previous finale was somewhat incomplete.

The story of the Castlevania series centers on the last of the Belmont clan, Trevor Belmont and takes inspiration from the 1989 Nintendo game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. In the series, Trevor Belmont is part of a family of monster hunters, which is sort of analogous to Van Helsing of the original Bram Stoker novel.

Ellis himself has been a longtime comic book writer, as some of his fine work include X-Men, and Iron Man, though he might be most famous for his groundbreaking science fiction series, Transmetropolitan which posits a future in which humans voluntarily undergo surgery to become aliens.

Now that the writer has revealed that the second season will have eight-episode, it is only a matter of time before Netflix announces the official release date.

Castlevania season 2 cast

Richard Madden Alucard Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2

The Netflix series will feature Richard Armitage as Trevor Belmont and Graham McTavish as Dracula, both of them are most likely expected to be back for season two.

The show will also be bringing back the likes of Alejandra Reynoso and James Callis’ Alucard (Dracula’s son) as they were involved in a pretty major cliffhanger in the final episode of season one.

It’s hard to predict which new characters we will be seeing in season 2, but it looks like both Richard Armitage and Graham McTavish feature in The Hobbit, and maybe Luke Evans as another Dracula (he has played him before, after all) could be a possibility

Also, Game of Thrones’ very own Robb Stark, Richard Madden, has done voice work on the game might as well rewrite his contract and give voice to the show as well.

Castlevania season 2 writer: Warren Ellis

Castlevania was in development for a long time – but Warren Ellis, the incredibly talented comic-book writer was behind the scenes the full time writing and reviewing the scripts.

The project was brought to Ellis back in 2007 and has gone through different monotony that included a straight-to-video animation and a live-action movie before it managed to land in Netflix’s lap.

Adding on to the fact that it’s taken Ellis so much time to get this story to the digital screen, with the fact Netflix gives him more freedom than traditional broadcasters, you can be sure that he’ll be back for more when Castlevania returns.
